How the two shows fit together

JIMTOF and MECT serve the same machine-tool and manufacturing audience, but they never compete for the same year. JIMTOF is held in Tokyo in even years. MECT is held in Nagoya in odd years. That alternation means a machine-tool exhibitor can be present at a major Japanese show every year without choosing one over the other.

Where each show is held

JIMTOF takes place at Tokyo Big Sight, in the Kanto region. MECT takes place at Port Messe Nagoya, in the Chubu region. Nagoya sits in the heart of Chubu's automotive and aerospace manufacturing region, which is a strong reason to exhibit there if those industries are your buyers.

Who should pick which

  • Choose JIMTOF if you want the largest national audience in a year when it is held and you are comfortable with a Tokyo-based trip.
  • Choose MECT if your buyers are in automotive, aerospace or general manufacturing in central Japan.
  • Plan for both if machine tools are your core market. The calendar lets you build a two-year rhythm.

Planning notes

Check each show's official site for exact dates, hall layout and application deadlines. Venues can change halls between editions, and Tokyo Big Sight has halls closed for renovation. Use our deadline planner to work back from move-in once dates are confirmed.

What to check before you decide

  1. Your target buyers: are they concentrated in Tokyo or in Chubu?
  2. Your budget for travel and booth build in each city.
  3. Application deadlines and booth availability.
  4. English-language support offered by each organizer.

Both shows are reviewed on their own pages. Use the comparison table above for the latest figures from our data.
